Dear colleagues, friends and readers of Mobile-Review.com!
Over the last few days Mobile-Review.com has been under continuous DDOS attacks coming from unidentified individuals. Several tens of thousands of computers across the globe are supporting the attack – these are “infected” terminals, or, as they call it, bot-nets. Since the first wave, which disabled the site,as all the channels were being jammed, the algorithms of the attack have been altered numerous times – from individual computers to the entire subnetwork housing Mobile-Review.com in particular.
The attackers hope that by crushing Mobile-Review.com, they won’t let our visitors get unbiased information on events in the mobile industry, read independent reviews and share their opinions on forums. In light of the fact that similar attacks can be performed by individuals or small groups of people, we regard this incident as an attempt to impose censorship in the Internet. More than 200.000 of our readers from all over the world, visiting Mobile-Review.com every day to find up-to-the-minute information or just talk to other users, have been robbed of this opportunity. These culprits oppose themselves to the society. There is only a small step separating censorship of undesirable resources and articles from an attempt to get hold of mass media, dictating own viewpoints for the sake of personal benefits or political goals. The threat of such scenario can’t be underestimated. Since all tools required for a DDoS-attack are available for free, it can be carried out by individuals favoring some particular brand, or any company having sufficient resources to set an attack going. Regrettably, it is not possible to track attackers in this case, nor can they be proven guilty in a court of law. Earlier this year, in spring, similar attacks were aimed at other resources, specifically, “Echo of Moscow”,site of the Kommersant.
When the first attack was unfolding, the Editor-in-Chief of Mobile-Review.com received an anonymous message on his Internet-pager, which read that fans of Apple were behind the attack, as this was a sort of revenge forthe iPhone and the treatment it got over at Mobile-Review.com. Possibly, it is true, however there is a chance that the message was sent in order to put us off the track. It is not a secret that we release “burning”, critical articles that many don’t like. There have been many of these of late – we think of this as our duty to notify the readers and subscribers not only of events and new offerings in the mobile industry, but also of certain facts marring usability of various gadgets, or capable of affecting consumers.
The attack aimed at Mobile-Review.com is unprecedented in scope and persistence. That is why we believe it is essential to attract attention of the community and our readers to the attempt of censoring unwanted points of view. If you don’t express your opinion on what is currently taking place today, tomorrow you will be down to consume only the informationsomeone needs and sees appropriate to offer you. This statement might sound grotesque or made-up, but this is how it stands. Great deeds start with the first step. Today, it is Mobile-Review.com, and our readers, who can’t get to us; tomorrow there will be more targets and so on. Only together can we stop this disaster from spreading further.
We don’t have turnkey solutions that would make the Internet a better place, with readers and resources protected from this type of censorship. We will be more than happy if our colleagues, readers and other users express what they think of this problem - on his/her resource, forum or any other place on the Web they visit. It is worth defending yourself from this kind of censorship in future.
For the time being, the staff of Mobile-Review.com doesn’t have a complete strategy for countering these threats in future. The technical side of our current activities is obvious, and we are doing everything possible to get the site back as soon as possible. We engage the site occasionally, and hope to get over this attack shortly. You can share your personal point of view in my blog - eldarmurtazin.livejournal.com.
Since it is a DDoS-attack and the attackers can’t be tracked online, we offer 10.000 USD (ten thousand USD) to any individual or group of individuals who can provide documented information on the mastermind of this attack. You can send all reports to my email.
Editor-in-Chief,

Shaken & Stirred
I was trying to visit Mobile-review.com for the Past 5 days but didn't knew what had happened. But thanks to my other favorite site GSMArena.com I am totally shocked to know what has happened. The kind of hype and mania that was created before the launch of iPhone it can be expected. And so people at Nokia, SE and Motorola should be ready for attacks from such mindless people for launching competition for iPhone. I guess from now there is no need of reviews since such nonsense attacks from a group of idiots who can't digest the flaws of a simple communicating device which has just evolved over last few years. I would like to conclude here that thanks to Mobile Review and GSMArena for helping me in having an Nokia 3250 which despite it flaws and all the flak it got I am really happy that before purchase I got to know it all. And to all iPhones people who did this act, Your device is really good thing that had a lot of capabilities and has shown a new direction to mobile world BUT NOTHING ON THIS EARTH IS PERFECT!! AND THE COMMENTS BY THE EXPERTS AND CRITICS WILL ONLY MAKE IT CLOSE TO PERFECTION. However if all you people want to destroy such a mobile revolution continue your acts of desparation.August 17 2007, 16:07:25 UTC 4 years ago
I don't think it was the iPhone review, fanboys aren't likely to go that extreme.
I hope such attacks won't happen to any site - its an absolute waste of resources.

I am reminded of a quote by a former Prime Minister of my country:
"... never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never-in nothing, great or small, large or petty - never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy." Sir Winston Churchill

some people are just idiots...
hi there eldar, .... haven't been with MR that long, but I do enjoy participating in the discussions, sharing of opinions, and various criticisms that's on there. And unlike other sites, one is given a free hand in commenting or criticizing almost anything...even the reviews themselves. Which makes it one of the more popular sites out there.anyway... I do hope that you get it fixed soon. Wish you and your team all the luck.
cheers!

Hold on!!!
Dear Eldar,I love and respect your site so much. Quite often I've got another point of view or another mind than you but that IS what we're here for - to be diverse. Just to note - I've chosen both of my phones based on your reviews, and I'm completely happy with my choices :) Hold on, you see - we all have gathered here around you, and we should overcome any enemies or threats together. Thank you, and stay strong!!!!!

Unbelivable!!!
I, like the rest of the Mobile-Review's readers, have been wondering why the site is down, this news came as a shock to me. I was suspecting technical problems, but nothing like this...If the attack comes as a consequence to the iPhone review, as I see things, there are 2 posibilities; either the attack is conducted by some misguided and close-minded Apple fans, either somebody at Apple itself is behind this thinking that the iPhone review will affect the sales of their new fashion toy...
In my opinion, should Apple fans be behind this, they should stop and realize that without criticism, there would not be any bugfixes, updates or upgrades to what is now available on the market so... if your only desire is to stop progress and keep paying more for bugs and lack of features, then continue your attack.
Either way, when the truth will come out (and eventually it will come out), the attack will only affect the APPLE image that brilliant people like Steve Jobs have worked so hard and for so long to build.
ATTACKERS SHAME ON YOU!!!

a disgrace
the first thing i do when i go online every day is to go to mobilereview.com, and like everyone else couldn't understand why i have been unable to access it for the past few days. the reviews are extensive and objective and the rumours section is the best on the web, hope you are back on soon, and my support KII.Anonymous

Bad
I love MR... I visited it regularly. Its unbiased reviews almost always satisfy me.Whenever i want a new fone, i visit MR n read Eldar's review.
Well newayz... this attack. If its due to the iPhone, i bet its APPLE itself.
These big corporations play dirty to get what they want. U kno, Sony went after that Dark AleX... The Custom Firmware dev. Now he's no longer doing it.
Apple especially. That article is TRUE to the last word. WTF is up with all these people goin crazy bowt the iphone?
Want big memory? Get the SE walkman smartphones!
Want LOADSSSS of features, go for other smartphones!
Wot do all these ppl see in the iphone?
Oh wait, take an iPod video... n get a Samsung ultra-edition...
Stick them together. There u go. Better than the iphone.
N if ur desire for STYLE dominates that of USABILITY, get Nokia's Luna, or those Prism fones.
I will request everyone here to forward that cached article around.
Best Wishes to MR
and to U Eldar :)

Attack on mobile review
this is unveliebable, an attack with this this kind of force just because an unbiased truthful review? i read MR a LOT, and i was beggining to wonder why i couldn't open the page several days from now, actually, the las article that i checked was the "identification" of the kind of device the iphone was, and i really liked it, because Mr. Murtazin said what everyone needed to know and couldn't see because the massive advertising behind this product, and as a matter of fact i was trying to show this very same article to many friends of mine who still believe that the iphone is the greatest phone ever made, of course, not to avail due to this attack. thankfully the people at GSMarena supported MR and finally we know what is goin on, now lets see what comes after this because if this attack is really from apple or its fanboys, it will really damage the company's image and credibility. well i really hope that MR comes back soon and the responsibles for this are punished (and the SE W960 kicks iPhone's @ss hehe). Good luck Mr. Murtazin and all the crew at Mobile-Review.Carlos V

It is more serious than we think...
I don't know if a stupid initiative of a bunch of apple zealots is capable of this. Don't you think there is bigger interests in this situation? Just to keep thinking about... Cheers Eldar!Anonymous
